JAMES PLOTKIN Comments On KHANATE Split

November 17, 2006

In a recent interview with Rock-A-Rolla magazine, James Plotkin (OLD, SCORN, ATOMSMASHER) spoke about the break-up of KHANATE, his "extreme doom" metal collaboration with Stephen O'Malley (THORR'S HAMMER, BURNING WITCH, SUNN 0))), LOTUS EATERS).

"There are a few reasons that led to the break down of KHANATE, the main reason being [Alan] Dubin's [vocals] lack of commitment towards a 'working' band," he said. "His day job editing TV commercials is a major part of his life, so it was something that was constantly getting in the way of rehearsing, recording, touring, etc. This prompted Stephen to take a more casual, non-committal approach with KHANATE, which is something I also found extremely disappointing. These things, compounded with a few other factors forced me to realize I didn't want to be a part of it anymore. Dubin had displayed a similar attitude a decade ago which led to the break-up of OLD, and I wasn't interested in prolonging the inevitable."
